In March, we were thrilled to have been awarded a £2000 grant from St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities in Oxford, to fund our upcoming project to expand the Oxford branch to include students from Oxford Brookes.
St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities are a group of historical charities based in Oxford, that awards grants to charities that support people in the city of Oxford and the surrounding towns. They aim to help organisations with the objective of relieving hardship and providing a benefit to the local community. We believe Students4Students plays a critical role in the community to improve the education of the primary school pupils who need it the most, and clearly the grantmakers agreed!
With this money, we plan to expand the current Oxford branch to include both committee members and tutors from Oxford Brookes. Recruitment is currently underway for a new committee, who will undergo their training over the summer, ready for the new academic term in the autumn. But with the ongoing social restrictions, we’re looking for new and innovative ways to attract people to the organisation, for example focusing more on online advertising, which we hope will greatly expand the size of the Oxford branch.
As well as recruiting more tutors, we also need to increase the number of children we work with, hence we’re currently contacting more schools around Oxford to offer our help. We’ll also be investing in laptops that can be loaned to schools in order to conduct online tutoring for the foreseeable future.
We’d once again like to thank St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities for their very generous support, and we can’t wait to use this money to expand the work of Students4Students in Oxford!
